Is Spanking Democratic?
by Dennis Rodie

In 1977 Sweden was the first country in the world that
had laws installed against spanking children. Even
though there was a large majority against it at the
time, nowadays it's almost impossible to find someone
who approves child spanking in this country.

A few weeks ago 200 children from 20 countries took
over the European parliament in Strassbourg. One of
those kids was the 13-year-old Nils, from Sweden.
Chosen as the Swedish ambassador he proposed
installing a law against child spanking. But he
learned democracy can be a difficult event sometimes.
His proposal was voted away.
Most of the children were convinced spanking was necessary.
' 'Really very strange! They cry when they get spanked', Nils said.
